Assigned to room together by chance their freshman year, seniors Michelle Baker and Kelly Cavallo still call each other roommates, and teammates, three years later.
For the past three years Katie Kuester has been a constant staple on the Saint Joseph's basketball team. She has constantly contributed both on and off the court. Throughout her career at Saint Joe's she has won awards ranging from the Big 5 Sportsmanship award to the MVP of last year's Hawk Classic.
Hard work pays off for walk-on
It was a one-and-one. Taylor Trevisan, '13, stepped to the line looking for his first collegiate basketball points. As his shot bounced off of the rim, everyone froze.
Carl Jones walked onto Saint Joseph's campus in the summer of 2009 as the center-piece to the incoming freshman class for the Hawks. He was fresh off of his Northern Ohio Player of the Year award and was ready to try to pump some life into the deflating men's program.
A guard from Baton Rouge, La., Langston Galloway, '14, is coming off of a successful freshman year where he not only made his mark as a Hawk, but also reached national recognition. Galloway is excited to help the team in all ways and is ready to be a leader on and off the court for the 2011-2012 season.
Chatilla van Grinsven joins Hawks and sister Samira
Simply by looking at them, you can tell that Samira and Chatilla Van Grinsven are sisters. Whether it is their 6'2" frame or their dark curly hair, the resemblance is striking. However, according to the two, their similarities stop at their appearance.
n college basketball, just as in every other Division I sport, being a freshman athlete can be overwhelming. The workload both on and off the court increases, the tempo of the game picks up, and at a school like Saint Joseph's University, where basketball means everything, it means very high expectations. Freshmen Chris Wilson and Evan Maschmeyer are prepared to take on those expectations.
