Todd O'Brien, '10, claims St. Joe's is unfairly withholding his release to play

The Saint Joseph's University men's basketball team and  head coach Phil Martelli have made national headlines for all the wrong reasons over the past 24 hours. On Dec. 19, former Hawk student-athlete Todd O'Brien made a first-person appeal asking for his scholarship release from the university in a post on the Sports Illustrated website.

Coach Martelli sets school record for career wins

With Saint Joseph's men's basketball team's win over Morgan State, 81-50, on Dec. 28, 2011 at Hagan Arena, head coach Phil Martelli set the school record for most wins. Bill Ferguson, head coach of the Hawks from 1928 to 1953, placed the marker high with 309 wins. However, in only 17 seasons, Martelli has achieved an impressive 310-212 record.

Simply by looking at them, you can tell that Samira and Chatilla Van Grinsven are sisters.  Whether it is their 6'2" frame or their dark curly hair, the resemblance is striking.  However, according to the two, their similarities stop at their appearance.

Freshmen Wilson and Maschmeyer look to leave mark on Hawk Hill

n college basketball, just as in every other Division I sport, being a freshman athlete can be overwhelming. The workload both on and off the court increases, the tempo of the game picks up, and at a school like Saint Joseph's University, where basketball means everything, it means very high expectations. Freshmen Chris Wilson and Evan Maschmeyer are prepared to take on those expectations.
